JCHS Generals Coaches Corner: Generals Go 1-1 in Woodmen Classic

 The Generals went 1-1 in the Woodmen Classic as they wrapped up Holiday play. 
On Dec 27[th], the Generals took on tradition rich West Carter from the 16th region @ Morgan County in the 1st annual Woodmen Classic. The Generals got off to a slow start as they allowed the Comets to score 23 points in the 1st quarter. The Generals tightened up the defense in the 2nd quarter, holding the Comets to just 3 points to go to the locker room tied 26-26 at the half. The Generals continued to buckle down as they only gave up 19 points in the entire second half. The Generals defeated West Carter 54-45 in the opening round. 
Scoring: Singleton and Ward 21 each / Truett 6 / Gray 4/ Sandlin 2 
Rebounds: Singleton and Ward 10 a piece / Gray 5/ McQueen and Truett 3 each / Coyle 2 
Assists: Truett 5, Singleton , Coyle , and Sandlin 3 each, Ward 2 and Gray 1 
December 28th would see the Generals face off a second time against the Cougars of Morgan County. The Generals opened up slowly on the defensive side again as they allowed the Cougars to score 22 in the first quarter, as the Generals scored 14. The Generals gave a good effort in the second quarter winning the quarter by 1 and going in at half time down 7. The Generals continued to fight hard in the second half, cutting the lead to as low as 4 several times but could not erase the deficit from the 1st quarter of play. In the end, the Generals had to put an excellent free-throw shooting team ( Morgan County ) on the line. The Cougars got their revenge in game 2 as they knocked off the Generals 61-49. (stats not available at time of write up) 
The Generals JV also took on the Cougars from Morgan County on Dec 28th. The JV Generals came away with a 9-point victory as all 8 players contributed well. 
The Generals will be back in action on Jan 2nd in Mckee as they face Middlesboro in the opening round of the All A region at 7:30 pm. The winner of this game will face the Barbourville Tigers on 1-4-25 at Lynn Camp High School 6:00pm. 
The Lady Generals will also be in action at home on 1-2-25 6;00pm as they take on 13th region rival South Laurel. 
Come out for a good night of basketball and support both teams as they give maximum effort to represent Jackson County!!
