Three seniors make up the Generals boy's basketball team. With much in store this season and in their post-high school futures, this is a group that Jackson County is proud to call their own. It is time to meet these talented young athletes.
"Hi, my name is Peyton Singleton. I'm eighteen years old and I've played basketball since I was in third grade. What got me into basketball was really just watching it ever since I was little. My favorite part of basketball is the thrill of getting out there and being able to play for my hometown."
Peyton has become a quintessential member of the team, with 84 rebounds and 106 points in the first eight games of the season alone. When the 6'2 forward was asked what has mentally prepared him to become the athlete he is today, he replied - "...My mom truly believing in me and knowing what I can do - that's really helped me; given me the motivation to go out there and give it my all."
After high school, Singleton plans to go into plumbing, but while we still have him for the remainder of the season, his skill will only grow from here.
"Hi, my name is Keagan Ward. I'm a senior at Jackson County High School and I've been playing basketball for thirteen years. The thing I love most about basketball is getting to represent my hometown and winning. My goals for this season are to win the All-A Regional, win the district, and region champions - I'd like the average double-double this year."
The 6'7 power forward is also a vital player for the Generals, with a whopping 162 points and 103 rebounds so far this season. He is not only an impeccable ball player but a great student. Having had a 4.0 GPA last school year, Ward was asked how he has maintained his school life all while being a recognized athlete within the 13th region. During the interview, he spoke of the importance of getting your schoolwork done and simply going to class; something that will undoubtedly carry over into his future as he plans to major in Computer Science after high school.
"Hey, my name is Braxton Clemons. I'm a six-foot guard at Jackson County High School. My goals for the team this year are to win the district tournament, make a run at the region, and win All-A. Some of my individual goals for the season are to score fifteen points a game and dish out five to six assists."
Despite suffering an injury during the seventh game of the season, Braxton has managed to post 89 points and 22 rebounds. The nineteen-year-old guard is well-versed in many realms of athletics, as he plays not only basketball but also football and baseball. When he was asked what challenges he has experienced as a three-sport athlete he said, "Some of the experiences I've had as a three-sport athlete is - it's hard sometimes to balance school and all the sports you play at the same time, but you just have to keep a strong mindset and go to class, do your work, and give it your all."
The rather adventurous Clemons plans to be a financial advisor after high school, these time-balancing skills will likely set him apart greatly in the future.
These are only three of this year's basketball seniors, stay tuned to meet the group of five that the Lady Generals has to offer.
