She was a wonderful mother and proudly raised her three children who called her “the best little mommy in the world!” She was a fun and feisty Mamaw whom her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved deeply. Her family rises and calls her blessed for she lived the example of a God-fearing Proverbs 31 woman. She loved and cared deeply for her family, friends, church family, and even strangers. Fern showed her love constantly by calling to check on those she cared for, hosting Sunday dinners, and trying to do special things for each one of them. Fern was a devoted Christian woman who lived her faith passionately and meekly. She embodied the nine fruits of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23. “22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23gentleness and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.” Her sacrificial love for others, despite her own hardships, was and is a true display of her character. She would thank the Lord every morning for blessing her and waking her with the morning light and would pray individually for each of her children and grandchildren by name daily. Throughout her life, Fern taught her family many lessons, encouraged them, and made them laugh, but above all, she stressed the importance of being saved in Jesus Christ, trusting in the Lord through life’s turmoil, and the value of working hard for what you have. Fern served as the rock and matriarch of her big, happy family and she did so with humility and charisma. She kept the entire family focused on what is important, Jesus, family, and the truth. Her light and influence will continue to shine through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for many generations to come. Fern will be greatly missed, but we rejoice in the fact that her soul has found rest and is in the care of the Lord.
