High School Student dies after collapsing during track practice in Eastern Kentucky

The cause of death for 15-year-old James Philippi, a Kentucky high school student, is under investigation. Philippi collapsed during track practice at Meece Middle School in Somerset on Monday. He was taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and transferred to UK Medical Center, where he died early Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Kyle Kively stated that the school community mourns his loss and supports each other during this difficult time.

An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of Philippi's death.
