JCMS Generals Football Team Close Season with Double OT - Head to Conference Playoffs!
The JCMS Generals will be in the Middle School Football Conference Playoffs this season after concluding their regular season with a double overtime win over Lynn Camp. The Generals are scheduled to play at Middlesboro in the first round.
The second half of the season had mixed results as the Generals varsity squad went 3-3 down the final 6 games. The Generals defeated Harlan Independent 30-8, Morgan County 14-6, and Lynn Camp 28-26. The Generals lost to Williamsburg, Leslie County and Betsy Layne. Colton Smith and Tyler Sandlin have led the Generals in Rushing yards down the stretch while Hez Purkey has led the team in receptions and receiving yards. Defensive leaders for the Generals have been Chase Shearer, Kenrdick Dezarn, Ty Roberts, Colton Smith, and Luke Hisle.
This has been one of the best seasons in memory for the JCMS Generals lead by a defense that has had 2 shutouts and has been stout all year. The offense has been off and on with the majority of the work being done on the ground. Coach Shearer stated "At the middle school level you really have to play great defense and score enough to win. The fundamentals of defense are harder to develop the later a player decides to play. We have had the luxury of having about 45 players in all grades (5-8). While the numbers are important it's the fundamentals and love of the game that we must develop to make this a solid program for years to come."
