Weather-related Depression, Road Maintenance, and Getting the Word Out

by County Judge Executive Shane Gabbard

I believe everyone will be glad when it gets warmer and dries up a little. This has been the wettest and coolest spring I can remember in quite some time. That on top of the storms and destruction has caused a type of depression to spread through areas. I believe a little extra sunshine and warm atmosphere will brighten the hopes of many.

This has also made it a task to keep road maintenance caught up. With around 500 miles of maintained roads, many still being gravel, we have had numerous wash outs and problems with drainage tiles stopping up. We have crews working everyday but can't seem to get ahead of the problems. Hopefully when the weather gets better we can get caught up and start doing some pothole patching.

I want to remind everyone that I no longer have any Facebook accounts. My accounts were permanently disabled by Facebook after several attempts to regain my profile. I used that platform to share information on public events, projects, announcements and emergencies as well as personal activities. I appreciate our local newspapers sharing information for us as they still are our most trusted news outlet. If you wonder what is going on in our community, I am thankful we have them to share details.

Have a blessed week
